Teso Rejects Third Term for Museveni
THE people of Teso have told the Constitutional Review Commission
that two terms of office were more than enough for President Museveni.
"Even the best dancer must leave the floor for others to show
their talents also," many speakers commented, adding that in
future the President and MPs must be elected on the same day and
should serve only for two terms of office.
The majority of the people in Soroti, Kaberamaido and Kumi districts
in their views preferred Multiparty democracy. They said the Movement
system was a one-man show, which was like one team playing football
without competition.
Many speakers wanted pluralism and participation of as many parties as
possible, including federo (federalism).
They said the Movement should also become a party and compete with
other parties. The commissioners collected views from Kumi, Soroti and
Kaberamaido between January 6 and 9.
Among contributors were elders, youth, and LCs. Few women participated
in the exercise.
